FREEDOM HAS A SOUND

Josh DaviesJuly 5, 2026
Main Scripture

Exodus 15

Scripture

Then Moses and the people of Israel sang this song to the Lord: “I will sing to the Lord, for he has triumphed gloriously; he has hurled both horse and rider into the sea.

Exodus 15:1

The First Response: Adoration

After the Red Sea parted, Israel didn't immediately start planning or worrying. They worshipped. The first response to God's deliverance is not activity—it is adoration.

Freedom begins by what God has done.

Scripture

Remember how the Lord your God led you through the wilderness for these forty years, humbling you and testing you to prove your character, and to find out whether or not you would obey his commands.

Deuteronomy 8:2

Remember or Fear

God commands us to remember because we easily forget yesterday's miracles when facing today's problems. Before fighting Goliath, David's confidence came from remembering God's track record. Yesterday's testimony is a weapon against today's fear.
Scripture

The Lord who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!

1 Samuel 17:37

Scripture

Let all that I am praise the Lord; may I never forget the good things he does for me.

Psalm 103:2

The Danger of Spiritual Amnesia

The enemy loves when we forget God's answered prayers and forgiveness, wanting us to focus on our failures. Instead, we must fix our thoughts on what is true, honorable, and worthy of praise.
Scripture

And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Philippians 4:8

A Memorial to Remember

Jesus established Communion so we would never forget. Every time we gather around the table, we remember the cross, the empty tomb, and the price He paid. Remembering strengthens our faith.
Scripture

He took some bread and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and gave it to the disciples, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.”

Luke 22:19

Discussion

What has God done in your life that you've stopped thanking Him for? How can remembrance fuel your faith today?

Scripture

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

Hebrews 13:8

Freedom: Your Enemy is Defeated

Freedom changes how you see your enemy. For 400 years, Pharaoh defined Israel. After the Red Sea, they saw him as defeated. Your old master—sin, shame, fear—has been disarmed at the cross.
Scripture

Pharaoh’s chariots and army he has hurled into the sea. The finest of Pharaoh’s officers are drowned in the Red Sea... They sank like lead in the mighty waters.

Exodus 15:4-10

Scripture

He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.

Colossians 2:13–15

A New Identity in Christ

The enemy wants to define you by your past. But in Christ, you are a new person. Your identity is no longer “addict” or “failure,” but forgiven, redeemed, chosen, and free.
Scripture

So if the Son sets you free, you are truly free.

John 8:36

Scripture

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!

2 Corinthians 5:17

Scripture

No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on...

Philippians 3:13–14

Discussion

What voice are you listening to? The voice of your defeated enemy or your heavenly Father? One reminds you of failure; the other reminds you of Christ's finished work.

Scripture

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:1

Freedomto Following

Scripture

“With your unfailing love you lead the people you have redeemed. In your might, you guide them to your sacred home.

Exodus 15:13

Scripture

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.

Ephesians 2:8-10

Trusting the Guide

God didn't give Israel a map; He gave His presence. Following Him requires daily trust and surrender. The question isn't if God is leading, but if we are following.
Scripture

Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.

Proverbs 3:5–6

Scripture

Then he said to the crowd, “If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me.

Luke 9:23

Discussion

Who is leading your life? Your priorities, finances, and decisions reveal your true master. Freedom is having the right Master.

Scripture

Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest... For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”

Matthew 11:28–30

FreedomYour Future

Scripture

You will bring them in and plant them on your own mountain— the place, O Lord, reserved for your own dwelling... The Lord will reign forever and ever!”

Exodus 15:17–18

Scripture

But you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

1 Peter 2:9

Scripture

And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.

Philippians 1:6

The Ultimate Promised Land

Our hope is an eternity with Christ, where every battle will end and every tear will be wiped away. Don't settle in the wilderness of disappointment or fear; keep your eyes on Jesus.
Scripture

God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people... He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain.

Revelation 21:3-4

Scripture

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses... let us strip off every weight that slows us down... We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus...

Hebrews 12:1-2

The Prison Door Is Open

Jesus has opened the prison door, yet many believers live as though it's still locked, carrying guilt God forgave and shame He removed. The debt is paid. The chains are broken. The victory is won.
Scripture

So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus.

Romans 8:1

Prayer

Ask God to help you live like you're truly free; to listen to His voice over your past, to embrace His forgiveness, and to choose daily to follow Him.
